Welcome to Trip Tally. This guide will help you get the most out of the app—from tracking your travels and analyzing charts to customizing themes and safeguarding your data.
Privacy & Data
Your data belongs to you.
- Local Storage: All trips are stored locally on your device. We do not run developer servers and do not collect your data.
- Optional Sync: iCloud sync is available in Settings, but you can keep the app fully offline if you prefer.
- Location Privacy: Location access is optional. It is used only to improve map search and coordinate refinement.
Core Concepts
Before you start logging, here is how Trip Tally organizes your travel data.
Anatomy of a Trip
Every trip requires a Date, Start Location, Destination, and Distance. You can then enrich your logs with optional details:
- Notes & Coordinates: Add context and map locations.
- Preference: Mark a spot as Liked, Disliked, or No Preference.
- Type: Categorize by Campground, HipCamp, National Park, Hotel, or Other.
- Towing: Track what you hauled (None, Trailer, Caravan).
- Mobile Coverage: Log carriers (including custom names) or mark as No Coverage.
Smart Features
- Coverage Inference: If you leave the coverage field blank, Trip Tally intelligently infers it based on your last trip to that same destination name.
- Geotag Labels: If a destination has coordinates, the app automatically generates City/Suburb labels for your History and Maps.
- Smart Defaults: To speed up logging, the Start Location pre-fills with your previous destination.
